'He was the heart of it': Tragedy unites football community in powerful scenes

There were powerful scenes in the fourth tier of Victorian football as a local community rallied behind a grieving family and club.

Westgate Sindjelic junior player Vuk Stjojic tragically passed away last month.

A beloved member of the club and Serbian community, he was honoured before Saturday’s fixture against Sydenham Park.

There was a tifo, an emotional speech, candles and even flares on a night dedicated to the teenager.

The match was also paused in the 16th minute.

“Vuk wasn’t just part of the group, he was the heart of it,” the pre-game speech included.
