Sydney United have added another chapter to one of Australian football's richest trophy cabinets, defeating APIA Leichhardt 3-1 to claim the 2026 Waratah Cup.
The victory secured United's ninth Waratah Cup crown and delivered the club's first piece of silverware of the season following an impressive display at Valentine Sports Park on Wednesday night.
Mason Wells was the hero, producing a match-winning brace, while Farah Koko's second-half volley put the result beyond doubt in an entertaining all-NPL NSW decider midweek.
Sydney United made the brighter start and were rewarded in the 15th minute when Wells opened the scoring.
APIA responded just before the interval through Michael Konestabo, whose equaliser ensured the sides went into the break level after an even opening 45 minutes.
But Sydney United found another gear after half-time.
Wells restored the lead with his second of the evening before Koko produced a stunning volley to seal a deserved 3-1 victory and spark celebrations.
The triumph continues Sydney United's proud tradition in one of New South Wales' premier knockout competitions, with the club now lifting the Waratah Cup for the ninth time.
For APIA, attention now turns back to the NPL NSW season and the Australia Cup, while Sydney United will hope the confidence gained from Wednesday night's success can provide momentum for the remainder of the campaign.
