South Melbourne are just three matches away from winning the inaugural OFC Pro League.

NPL VIC giants South Melbourne sealed their spot in the semi-finals thanks to their 4-2 come-from-behind victory against South Island United at Eden Park on Saturday night.

In a top-of-the-table clash in the Leaders Group, Sinisa Cohadzic’s side conceded first before piling on four unanswered goals in Auckland.

Arran Cocks, Max Mikkola and Jordan Swibel were on target. Mikkola’s goal celebration was the highlight as he replicated scoring a try at the iconic rugby venue.

South Melbourne already captured the inaugural Australian Championship in December. Now, they’re within touching distance of more silverware.

Also juggling their NPL VIC commitments as they contend on all fronts, South Melbourne are well placed to finish top of the group heading into Tuesday’s fixture against Bula FC at Eden Park.

South Melbourne are five points off the pace through 12 rounds in NPL VIC.

Cohadzic told reporters: “We thought tonight we really had to be good on the ball and control the tempo.

“The goal we conceded, we’re a bit disappointed with that moment but after that, a great response.

“Strategically, we had to make sure we did some things to be ready for semi-finals and the final.”
