Can anyone stop Lions FC? Queensland powerhouse complete remarkable quadruple

Lions FC completed a remarkable domestic quadruple on Saturday night, with Fred Oyet’s 93rd-minute winner securing a dramatic 1-0 victory over Peninsula Power in the NPL QLD Grand Final.

With the decider seemingly destined for extra time at Gioca Stadium, Oyet struck at the death to deliver another piece of silverware to Dan Barber’s side and cap a dominant season in Queensland football.

The Championship joins the NPL QLD Premiership, Kappa Pro Series and Kappa Queensland Cup already secured by the high-flying Lions in 2026.

It also continued a remarkable run in the state’s top flight, with Lions now crowned NPL QLD Champions for three consecutive seasons.

Saturday’s decider brought together Queensland’s top two sides from the regular season, with Premiers Lions again getting the better of a Peninsula team they had defeated 4-1 in the qualifying final only a fortnight earlier.

This time, however, there was little between them.

Power kept the league’s benchmark side scoreless for more than 90 minutes before Oyet finally broke their resistance in stoppage time, ensuring the Championship trophy would remain with Lions for another year.

The victory adds another chapter to an increasingly impressive period of dominance for the club, but their extraordinary 2026 campaign is not finished yet.

Lions have taken their domestic form onto the national stage in the Australia Cup, eliminating A-League opposition in Perth Glory and Melbourne City before cruising past North Sunshine Eagles 4-0 in the quarter-finals.

They now travel south to face NPL VIC giants South Melbourne for a place in the Australia Cup Final.
