Lions FC’s extraordinary 2026 season has reached another level after the NPL QLD powerhouse stormed into the Australia Cup semi-finals for the first time in club history.
Already three-time trophy winners this year, Lions showed no mercy against North Sunshine Eagles, scoring four times in the opening half to cruise to a 4-0 quarter-final victory in front of a bumper crowd at Luxury Paints Stadium on Tuesday night.

Mitchell Hore did much of the damage with a devastating seven-minute brace, while Finn Beakhurst and Cher Deng also found the net as Lions effectively ended the contest before half-time against a North Sunshine side who enjoyed a memorable debut Australia Cup campaign despite being relegated from Victoria’s second tier.
Lions have already lifted the Kappa Pro Series, NPL Queensland Premiership and Queensland Cup, while they remain in contention for the NPL Championship and now the Australia Cup as they eye the NPL Grand Final and a state quadruple.
Their national run has been equally impressive. After eliminating A-League opposition in Perth Glory and Melbourne City, Lions have now swept aside North Sunshine to reach the final four with either Preston Lions or South Melbourne for a place in the Australia Cup Final.
