A fortnight ago, Green Gully were still searching for their first win of the NPL VIC season. Now, the Cavaliers have back-to-back victories, fresh faces through the door and renewed belief that their season can still be salvaged.
Just hours after announcing the signings of Kyle Taylor, Daniel Alessi and Alexander Savva, Green Gully produced another composed performance to defeat fellow strugglers Bentleigh Greens 3-0 on Friday night.
Josh Hope scored two goals in 30 minutes, after Kur Kur broke the deadlock under the lights.
Green Gully remain bottom of the standings but they are just two points adrift of second-bottom Dandenong Thunder, and six behind 12th-placed Bentleigh.
The victory followed last week's breakthrough win over South Melbourne - the club's first league success of 2026, and continued the steady improvement that has been evident since Green Gully great Andy Vargas returned to Kealba to take charge.
The Cavaliers had shown encouraging signs before finally breaking through.
They surrendered a two-goal lead against Hume City, then stunned South Melbourne to end their long wait for victory. Friday night's result suggested that performance was no one-off.
Off the field, Green Gully have also moved decisively to strengthen the squad.
Former Bournemouth midfielder Kyle Taylor arrives with close to 100 professional appearances in England after most recently representing Gold Coast United and Dandenong Thunder.
Defender Daniel Alessi reunites with Taylor after his own spell at Thunder, bringing A-League experience and having previously been part of Western Sydney Wanderers' AFC Champions League-winning squad.
Completing the trio is Alexander Savva - a Green Gully junior who returns to his boyhood club after spells with Western United and Heidelberg United.
