He won promotion then stepped into the A-League system - now Gabriel Hawash has his NPL shot

Gabriel Hawash’s rise through Queensland football has delivered its next opportunity, with the highly-rated coach appointed to lead Wynnum Wolves in NPL QLD next season.

Hawash will take charge of the Wolves in 2027, with Jack Mestric and former A-League defender Luke DeVere joining his coaching staff as assistants.

The appointment brings Hawash back into senior coaching after a successful spell with Holland Park Hawks. He guided the club to the 2024 FQPL2 Premiership and promotion, with his work also earning him the competition’s Coach of the Season award.

That success helped open the door to Brisbane Roar, where Hawash joined the club’s NPL program and worked within the A-League club’s development environment. His time at the Roar was followed by another significant role ahead of 2026, when Lions FC appointed him as the club’s technical director.

Now comes the opportunity to take charge at Queensland’s highest state-league level.
