Folded? League leaders set the record straight

Fawkner SC no more? The Victorian club have rejected speculation surrounding the future of their high-flying senior men's program, insisting they remain fully operational and focused on their promotion push.
Fawkner released a statement following what they described as "recent public commentary and speculation" regarding the senior men's team.
There had been reports of a mass exodus on Friday, with a number of players already de-registered amid reported financial difficulties at the State League 3 North-West leaders.

While head coach Kevin Theuma has departed, Fawkner have moved to pour cold water over the speculation.
"The Senior Men's program has not folded," said the club, who play in the state’s sixth tier.
“The team continue in season 2026, currently sit top of State League 3 North West, and take the field this Saturday against Dallas City - a match we're very much looking forward to.”

The statement comes after a period of uncertainty surrounding the program, with player and staff departures fuelling discussion within Victorian football circles.
Fawkner acknowledged officials had recently met with senior men's management and made what it described as a number of difficult decisions.
According to Fawkner, those decisions were made with the aim of protecting the long-term stability and sustainability at CB Smith Reserve.
Fawkner were also keen to clarify the circumstances surrounding recent departures.

They stated no player or official was asked to leave the club and all players who requested clearances were granted them within a reasonable timeframe.
"The players and staff who have moved on did so of their own volition," the statement read. "We thank them sincerely for their contribution and wish them every success in the future."
Despite the speculation, Fawkner said their attention remains firmly on football matters.
"The club won't be responding to anonymous claims point by point," the statement said.
“Our focus is exactly where it should be - on our players, our members, our families, and the football in front of us.”
Currently sitting atop the State League 3 North-West ladder, Fawkner will return to action on Saturday when they host third-placed Dallas City.
Only two points separate Fawkner and Dallas, with the Blues ahead of Balmoral SC on goal difference.
"To everyone who backs this club: thank you. Get down to the ground on Saturday and get behind the team,” they added.
