Eastern Lions look to Boroondara for a fresh start after turbulent coaching season
By Sacha Pisani4 October 2026

Eastern Lions have turned to Boroondara Eagles mainstay Dilan Lomas to lead their VPL2 side into 2027.
Lomas has been appointed head coach after spending almost a decade at Boroondara, where he established himself as a key figure across several areas of the club following his arrival in Australia in 2017.
His journey with the Eagles included time as both a player and coach before progressing into senior leadership roles. Most recently, Lomas combined his responsibilities as Boroondara’s men’s first-team coach with the role of club technical director.
The appointment brings further change to the Eastern Lions dugout following a turbulent 2026 in Victoria’s third tier.
George Karkaletsis succeeded Sean Douglas during the campaign after Douglas transitioned into the Technical Director role, before Karkaletsis received a lengthy suspension in July.
Eastern have now handed the reins to Lomas, who is also a current AFC/FA ‘A’ Diploma candidate, as the club looks towards a fresh start in 2027.
For Lomas, the move represents a significant new chapter after becoming deeply embedded at Boroondara over nine years, leaving a club where he progressed from player to coach and technical director to take charge of the Lions.
