By Sacha Pisani29 June 2026

Bentleigh Greens have made their intentions clear in NPL VIC.
With the club locked in a battle to avoid relegation from Victoria’s top flight, the Greens have launched an ambitious mid-season recruitment drive, securing four experienced additions led by long-serving Scottish midfielder Ross Matthews.
HIGHPRESS FEATURE: The man who refused to let George Cross be forgotten
The headline arrival is Matthews, who departs Scottish club Raith Rovers after more than 250 senior appearances across a 13-year spell. He spent his entire career at the club.
“A player who always gave 100% for the badge, Ross departs as a true Raith legend,” Raith said following his exit.
A promotion winner in Scottish League One, the experienced midfielder arrives in Australia with a reputation built on leadership, consistency and professionalism as Bentleigh look to steer themselves away from danger.
“[I am] delighted to have joined Bentleigh Greens Soccer Club in the Victoria NPL on a short-term contract until the end of the season,” he said via social media.
“After spending my whole career in Scotland, I felt ready for a new challenge in a new environment and I’m grateful for the opportunity to come over to Melbourne and experience football in Australia.
“As part of the move, I’m also looking forward to starting my coaching journey with Broxham Football Academy, working with the U/9 and U/11 teams, alongside playing.
“[I am] excited for what’s ahead.”

The Greens have also landed George Mells, whose football journey has taken him through the academies of Chelsea and Southampton before returning to Australia to begin his professional career with Adelaide United.
The former Australian youth international also brings a proven winning pedigree, having lifted championships in both the A-League and NPL Victoria.
Bentleigh's defensive stocks have also been strengthened by the arrival of Nathan Dib.
The versatile defender brings valuable NPL Victoria experience and is capable of playing at left-back or through the middle, providing added depth and composure to the backline.
Rounding out the recruitment drive is experienced striker Ndue Mujeci.
After professional spells in Bulgaria, Georgia and Hong Kong, Mujeci has become a familiar face in Victorian football and arrives from North Sunshine Eagles with a proven goalscoring record and a wealth of experience.
The quartet arrive at a pivotal stage of Bentleigh's season.
Currently sitting third bottom, Bentleigh are three points adrift of safety through 18 rounds.
