History awaits: State league clubs discover their Australia Cup path
The road to Australia Cup glory is now clear.
The Round of 32 draw has delivered a host of blockbuster fixtures for NPL and state league clubs across the country, with several community sides rewarded for historic qualification campaigns and others returning to the national stage after years away.
Just weeks after lifting the Lakoseljac Cup for the first time in club history and securing a maiden Australia Cup Round of 32 berth, the Tasmanian side have been handed a glamour tie against A-League giants Melbourne Victory.
In Canberra, Tigers FC will host Western Sydney Wanderers as they look to continue a remarkable campaign, while NPL VIC powerhouse South Melbourne and three-time champions Adelaide United will renew acquaintances in one of the standout fixtures of the round.
The romance of the cup is perhaps best represented by clubs such as Marlin Coast Rangers and FK Beograd.
For FK Beograd, it has already been a week they will never forget. The South Australian side qualified for the national stage for the first time in club history before drawing North Sunshine Eagles after also reaching the Federation Cup Final.
Founded in 1941, the South Australian club booked their first appearance in the national rounds after overcoming Omonia Cobras. Now they face Victorian powerhouse and 2025 runners-up Heidelberg United.
In the Round of 32 for a second consecutive season, Weston Bears will host Melbourne City in a blockbuster showdown.
The draw also guarantees several member federation clubs a place in the Round of 16.
NPL NSW leaders APIA Leichhardt and NPL QLD pacesetters Peninsula Power, two of the strongest state league sides in the country, will meet in a heavyweight showdown, while Rochedale Rovers face SD Raiders in another all-member federation clash.
Sydney United's reward for another deep cup run is a meeting with Central Coast Mariners, while Preston Lions host reigning champions Newcastle Jets and Sydney Olympic face Brisbane Roar.
Every year, the Australia Cup creates new stories. For clubs like Kingborough, Fremantle City, FK Beograd, Cumberland United and Marlin Coast Rangers, the next chapter is only just beginning.
